Conference Fieldtrips

Two pre-conference and six post-conference field trips are planned. These fieldtrips are designed to combine an opportunity to see some of Europe's most dramatic geology with some of its most outstanding scenery. The prices of the fieldtrips range from 85 Euros to 250 Euros. Further details of the fieldtrips available and their prices are available here. Tickets for the Geomicrobiology field trip can be purchased on site.

Conference excursions

The Tuesday afternoon of the conference has been kept free for a range of short conference excursions and events. It would be helpful to have some indication of which of these excursions will be popular with delegates, and we therefore ask delegates to indicate which excursion they might like to participate in using the fieldtrip and excursions booking form.

Conference Banquet

The conference banquet will be held at the Conference Center at 19:00 on Wednesday 21st August. This will be the main social event of the conference, and will include a sumptuous meal and wine. Space is limited, so it is advisable to book early for this. Delegates wishing to attend the banquet should book their place when they register for the conference. The deadline for bookings is July 18th, and the cost of the tickets is 70 Euros.

Traditional Swiss Alpine Evening

The Traditional Swiss Alpine Evening will take place on Monday 19th at 18:00 on the beautiful Rinerhorn. Transport to and from the Rinerhorn is included in the price of the evening of 50 Euros. Also included is "raclette" (a typical Swiss cheese dish), some wine, traditional music and mineral water. Raclette is similar to the better known fondue: it consists of molten swiss cheese served with potatoes and mixed pickles. Space for this event is strictly limited to 400 people. Delegates wishing to attend the Traditional Swiss Alpine Evening should book their place when they register for the conference. The deadline for bookings is July 18th, and the cost of the tickets is 50 Euros.

Conference Farewell Party

A Farewell Party will be held on Friday, 23 August at the Bolgen Plaza, a rustic mountain restaurant located across the river within walking distance from the Congress Centre at the foot of the ski slopes. An aperitif will be served from 7 pm, with dinner beginning around 8 pm. The menu will consist of regional specialties. After dinner, a dance party will take place with music spun by a DJ until the early morning hours. The Farewell Party, including the aperitif, dinner (no beverages) and entertainment, will cost SFr 75 (approx. Euro 50). Tickets will be sold only in Davos at the registration desk. As there is limited seating in the Bolgen Plaza, those wishing to attend the Farewell Party are advised to purchase their tickets when they register.

Social Excursions

The following excursions are available to all delegates and accompanying persons and should interest the non-geochemically minded as well as seasoned geochemists. Delegates (including accompanying persons) wishing to book these excursions should do so by completing the booking form, which is available as a PDF file, or as a normal web page, and return it to the Davos Tourist Office by July 18th, 2002. The prices are given in Euros.
