Hi Steve, This is a great study--thanks for sharing it. Question: Did you determine the residence time of U in Lake Cadagno? The mixing time of the Lake Cadagno watermass? Could residence time > mixing time account for the vertical homogeneity of d238U in the lake waters?
Hi Tom, I'm assuming you mean Canyon Lake. We have not yet determined the residence time of U in Canyon Lake. In fact, we're still working on the water balance for Canyon Lake, but expect that it's slow to turn over (order years) as surface water outflow from the lake is quite limited at least during the summer months. Once we know what fraction of U in the sediment is derived from the water column, we can use that information to set at least an upper bound on the residence time of U in the lake.
